Meet Kelsey, Founder of Coming Up Roses

Meet Kelsey — soon-to-be mum of two (!!), American in Australia, and the creative brain behind Coming Up Roses 🌸

After having her son in 2020, Kelsey did what many of us only dream about at 3am feeds — she turned her creative spark into a full-blown business. What started as a studio has now bloomed into an education biz helping other creatives get their magic out into the world (and yes, her marketing skills are *chef’s kiss*).

What inspired you to start Coming Up Roses?

It was actually after I had my son in 2020. I had always wanted to start my own creative business, but I kept putting it off. When I had my son I felt super creative and wanted to channel that somewhere. That's when I started my business which started as a creative studio, and has morphed into an education business that teaches creatives + creators how to market their offerings. My background is in marketing, so it's kinda come full circle.

What’s the best part about running Coming Up Roses?

The connection + creativity it brings. I honestly feel like it's my lil garden where I get to express, try new things and connect with people around the world. For example, in 2023 I travelled Europe and in Sweden, I met up with 3 women from my community for drinks. It feels like I have friends all over the world who all connect through this shared value system. It's really special.

Tell us about your ideal day with your plus one.

Start the day at the Ocean Baths in Newcastle where I live. Take a long walk from Newcastle Beach, and grab a coffee along the way at The Kiosk.

Hop on the tram and head down Darby Street and grab breakfast at Autumn Rooms or grab a pastry and Liebe. Hop in the car and go to Common Circus for some browsing, then to Gregson Park for a lil play. Spur for lunch.

Head back to the beach for the afternoon, this time to Mereweather, and grab Larrie’s takeaway fish & chips after a swim and beach hang. End the day with some sticky date pudding at Goldbergs.

What’s on your family holiday bucket list?

So many! In Australia, we want to go to Brisbane for the Bluey House, Tasmania, Perth, Adelaide. I'm not from here so there are lots of places I want to see within the country. I'd also love to go to Japan in the near future.

What’s your go-to when you have a kid-free moment?

Love going to Wickham Street Studio for Pilates and the aforementioned Newcastle Ocean Baths. Love an infrared sauna at Zadig. Love getting a lymphatic massage at Samana Natural Therapies.
